Export Import Code
A Step Forward for Your Business in Today's Globalized Economy
A Brief About Export Import Code
In today’s globalized economy, businesses aim to expand beyond domestic markets. However, entering global trade requires compliance with various laws and registrations.
Import Export Code (IEC) is a unique 10-digit code required for businesses involved in the import and export of goods. It is issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and is mandatory to avail benefits under various export schemes.
Without an IEC, exporters cannot access DGFT benefits. Once the online application is correctly submitted, the IEC is usually issued within a short timeframe of 2–5 working days.
Benefits and Advantages of IEC Registration
Obtaining an Import Export Code unlocks several critical advantages for businesses looking to scale internationally.
Global Market Expansion
Enables businesses to easily expand operations, export goods/services into global markets, and reach international audiences.
Access to Gov Benefits
Unlock access to valuable benefits from the DGFT, Export Promotion Councils, Customs, and schemes like MEIS and SEIS.
Lifetime Validity & No Returns
Enjoy lifetime validity with no renewal required. Additionally, there are no return filing or minimal compliance requirements after registration.

Required for customs clearance of shipments, essential for international bank transactions, and simplifies foreign currency handling.
Additional Perks

- Required by banking institutions for facilitating cross-border payments.
- Simplifies all foreign currency transactions for your enterprise.
How to Apply and Issuance of IEC
The process of obtaining your Export Import Code is entirely digital and streamlined.
1. Online Submission
Submit an online application in Form ANF 2A on the official DGFT portal to initiate the registration process.
2. Documentation
Provide necessary address proof and bank proof (cancelled cheque or bank certificate). Submit all documents including bank details and Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).
3. Processing
Once the application is filed with the DGFT, the department verifies your credentials and attached documents.
4. Issuance
After successful verification, the IEC is issued digitally. A confirmation is sent via SMS/email with a download link. Note: The IEC profile must be updated at least once a year.
