About Digital Signature Certificate
In India, a digital signature certificate (DSC) is an electronic form of signature that is used to sign and authenticate electronic documents and transactions.
It is issued by Certifying Authorities (CA) that are authorized by the Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) under the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Application Process
Apply to a Certifying Authority (CA) and submit Identity and Address proof. The CA verifies the documents and issues your DSC.
Validity & Renewal
A DSC is usually valid for 1–2 years. Once it expires, it requires a mandatory renewal process to continue usage.
Legal Validity
Holds the exact same legal value as a handwritten signature, provided it is issued by an authorized CA under the IT Act.

Types of Digital Signature Certificates

Class 1 DSC
Used primarily for securing email communications. It verifies that the information in the application provided by the subscriber does not conflict with the information in well-recognized consumer databases.
Class 3 DSC
This is the highest level of DSC. It is currently the industry standard used for Company Registration, Filing Tax Returns, E-tendering, online banking, and other major official portals.
DSC Variants
Based on security requirements, DSCs are further classified into Signature Only, Encryption Only, or a Combo (Signature + Encryption). Higher variants are required for highly secure Government portals.

What Class & Variant Should I Buy?
As per the latest CCA guidelines, Class-2 DSCs have been discontinued. Therefore, only Class-3 DSC is now available for purchase and operations.
